Apparently I suck at the whole blogging thing. =( Mostly because I've been busy! Since my last post (our anniversary!!), there have been a few horse shows, so weekends seeing family and weekends at the barn.
In between busy weekends, I've "sort of" dieted. I'm getting closer to 180, last weigh in was 181.7. Now, over the weekend, we didn't necessarily eat healthy, but I've also been working at the barn and sweating my toosh off. The weather has been on such a roller coaster. July turned out to be pretty darn hot and miserable. Thankfully, August has turned out to be different - cooler, less humid, much more enjoyable!
So I will get back on the wagon and keep dropping weight a bit at a time. I am starting to get into pants that I haven't fit in for a while, which is great! I told Mike I needed to lose the weight before winter comes so that I can get back into the pants I have without having to buy more!
So, I will do my best to get back on here!

Very Quick Update
I worked the NEWQHA 4-day show this weekend, Thursday through Sunday, so I'm about ready to collapse. I don't function getting up that early 4 days in a row. But on the plus side, I made some contacts to get my name thrown in to possibly get more announcing jobs, and I made a great paycheck - even managed to earn myself a pay bump while working! A lot of this money is being saved for some horses from BreyerFest, but I have some other fun purchases in mind too.
On a plus side, I weighed myself........hmm, was it yesterday or today? I really don't remember, my eyes are tired. Either way, whether it was yesterday or today, I was at 182.3. I admit, I haven't done much as far as eating "healthy" - but I haven't eaten much over the last 4 days. Mowing when it's about 87 degrees probably sweated off a little bit.
So I will continue the effort to eat healthy. Right now? Sleep.

I'm Back
It's not that I don't want to blog, I just got busy, sick, travel, etc. I know, no excuses, but what can I say. I weighed in this morning, and I'm in at 183.9, which puts me down 2 pounds total. I wouldn't have necessarily thought that I would have dropped that, given my screwy eating habits since I last posted. Mike and I both had colds in there, and when I get sick, I really don't eat a whole lot. I'm too busy trying to breathe. =(
On the positive side, we bought a toaster oven/rotisserie combo and made our first chicken in it Sunday. I do believe we'll be investing in some EVOO (extra virgin olive oil, for the non-Rachel Ray fans) and some herbs to use on the chickens. We also just got Hungry Girl's new cookbook. There are some fan-tas-tic new recipes in there that we'll be trying out.
But I do believe that things will get better from here. The cookbook and the toaster oven will be big helps. I'm going to take a look at the Fox Cities marathon website and probably sign up for the 5K again. I think this year, since I should have enough time, I'm going to go for actually jogging the entire thing this year, rather than jogging and walking. I'd really like to be able to do that, at least once. I'll browse through iTunes and see if I can find some training things to use for getting my endurance and wind back up. (Exercise induced asthma is a pain sometimes.)

Back to the Grind
Travelling for work never equates to eating healthy. I eat on weird schedules, usually don't have decent options for places to eat, and food is usually crazy-priced. So I admit, I didn't eat too well Sunday through Tuesday. Before I left on Sunday, I weighed myself and I was down .3 pounds. I'm sure that's back on now. But hey, what can you do.
And if Mother Nature would get her butt in gear and give us some decent weather, I do admit that I'd be more inclined to go out and exercise. Now, again, today is only my first day back to a normal routine of going to work, but I will get myself out and exercising. Just hoping this weather clears up. The first of 6 horse shows I'm working this summer is this Sunday, and right now, the forecast sucks. There's a good chance of rain tomorrow, Friday should be sunny, and Saturday has a 50% chance of rain. The show is taking place in two outdoor arenas, but there is an indoor arena available if the outdoors are crummy. Worst case scenario is that the show would have to be postponed, and the weekend they would move it to is my birthday weekend. I suppose I could work it.......nah. =) I want to enjoy the weekend.
So, I promise the rest of the week to get back on track with eating. Getting back to a normal routine will help a lot.

Goals and Other Things
Ok, can't remember if I mentioned it before, but we'll reiterate goals here.
I would like to be down to 160. I think it will be a good weight, and I'm hoping one I can maintain. I'd like to try to drop about a pound or pound and a half a week.
Mike and I have decided that when we each reach our goals, we get something cool. Mike wants a PS3 with the MLB game. I haven't yet decided what I want. Any suggestions? =) Some sort of model horse would be cool, but I have a large sum of money coming to me this summer thanks to working 6 horse shows, so I'm going to be getting some fun horses this summer. So my goal "prize" is still up in the air.
I have to travel next week for work, so eating healthy will be a challenge. It sounds like there are a lot of restaurants around the hotel in Raleigh, so I can probably find something there. I will bend once and get a donut from Dunkin' Donuts while in Philadelphia. The only DD we had in town closed....gee, when I was 12 or something? And I love - love - their chocolate donuts.
There are some fantastic little bagel thins that I will get this weekend to take with me. They're a bagel, without all the bagel. =) The two I've tried so far are only 110 or 100 calories, which is a great option for a snack.
On the plus side, we're supposed to start warming up starting tomorrow, and Raleigh's high temp on Sunday and Monday is 84. I can't wait. The hotel has an outdoor pool. Not sure if I'm ready for a swimsuit, but you can sure bet I'm going to be dipping my feet in there!

Day 1 - The Start
I think anyone who runs in races, whether a little 5k or a marathon, knows that the start is important. You don't want to start too fast; you'll burn yourself out. Too slow? You might feel that the pace is good, and you might not reach your time goal. So starting just right is the challenge.
(If I'm completely wrong on that, anyone who runs, please correct me. That's just my thoughts from having run a few 5Ks.)
So today was Day 1. Weigh-in day. See what the damage is and how to set my goals.
I promised I'd share. I'm not proud of it, but here it is: 186.
Ugh.
How did that happen?
(Well, that wouldn't be too hard to figure out. Have you heard that this was the 5th snowiest winter on record? Oh, and there's snow/rain coming tomorrow. I repeat: ugh.)
So there it is, my current weight. My goal? I'd like to be down to 160. I'm 5'6", and I think 160 would be a reasonable goal. I'm sure that the weight loss experts would look at my weight and say I should be lower, but honestly, I know myself. I'll never get down that low, nor would I be able to maintain it. I know me. I like to eat. Hence, the weight listed above.
Ok, the tough part is done. I've shared the hard part. Now I move on to watching what I eat: eating more than just an apple a day. (Though it has helped keep me away from the doc the last few years except for things like asthma and a viral rash that I never want to repeat.)
I know Mike and I can do this. The teamwork we'll have will help us both reach our goals to be healthier and live longer together. To get out and enjoy things, like Midwest Horse Fair next year. Going out for bike rides on the CE trail - and going the whole way. Maybe lots more things that I can't even think of at the moment.
So there it is. Tomorrow: the little steps and the rewards.
