Travelling for work never equates to eating healthy. I eat on weird schedules, usually don't have decent options for places to eat, and food is usually crazy-priced. So I admit, I didn't eat too well Sunday through Tuesday. Before I left on Sunday, I weighed myself and I was down .3 pounds. I'm sure that's back on now. But hey, what can you do.
And if Mother Nature would get her butt in gear and give us some decent weather, I do admit that I'd be more inclined to go out and exercise. Now, again, today is only my first day back to a normal routine of going to work, but I will get myself out and exercising. Just hoping this weather clears up. The first of 6 horse shows I'm working this summer is this Sunday, and right now, the forecast sucks. There's a good chance of rain tomorrow, Friday should be sunny, and Saturday has a 50% chance of rain. The show is taking place in two outdoor arenas, but there is an indoor arena available if the outdoors are crummy. Worst case scenario is that the show would have to be postponed, and the weekend they would move it to is my birthday weekend. I suppose I could work it.......nah. =) I want to enjoy the weekend.
So, I promise the rest of the week to get back on track with eating. Getting back to a normal routine will help a lot.

This is me. This is me journeying along the path that so many take - lose the weight and improve their way of living. This is me being honest - I promise.

Goals and Other Things
Ok, can't remember if I mentioned it before, but we'll reiterate goals here.
I would like to be down to 160. I think it will be a good weight, and I'm hoping one I can maintain. I'd like to try to drop about a pound or pound and a half a week.
Mike and I have decided that when we each reach our goals, we get something cool. Mike wants a PS3 with the MLB game. I haven't yet decided what I want. Any suggestions? =) Some sort of model horse would be cool, but I have a large sum of money coming to me this summer thanks to working 6 horse shows, so I'm going to be getting some fun horses this summer. So my goal "prize" is still up in the air.
I have to travel next week for work, so eating healthy will be a challenge. It sounds like there are a lot of restaurants around the hotel in Raleigh, so I can probably find something there. I will bend once and get a donut from Dunkin' Donuts while in Philadelphia. The only DD we had in town closed....gee, when I was 12 or something? And I love - love - their chocolate donuts.
There are some fantastic little bagel thins that I will get this weekend to take with me. They're a bagel, without all the bagel. =) The two I've tried so far are only 110 or 100 calories, which is a great option for a snack.
On the plus side, we're supposed to start warming up starting tomorrow, and Raleigh's high temp on Sunday and Monday is 84. I can't wait. The hotel has an outdoor pool. Not sure if I'm ready for a swimsuit, but you can sure bet I'm going to be dipping my feet in there!

Day 1 - The Start
I think anyone who runs in races, whether a little 5k or a marathon, knows that the start is important. You don't want to start too fast; you'll burn yourself out. Too slow? You might feel that the pace is good, and you might not reach your time goal. So starting just right is the challenge.
(If I'm completely wrong on that, anyone who runs, please correct me. That's just my thoughts from having run a few 5Ks.)
So today was Day 1. Weigh-in day. See what the damage is and how to set my goals.
I promised I'd share. I'm not proud of it, but here it is: 186.
Ugh.
How did that happen?
(Well, that wouldn't be too hard to figure out. Have you heard that this was the 5th snowiest winter on record? Oh, and there's snow/rain coming tomorrow. I repeat: ugh.)
So there it is, my current weight. My goal? I'd like to be down to 160. I'm 5'6", and I think 160 would be a reasonable goal. I'm sure that the weight loss experts would look at my weight and say I should be lower, but honestly, I know myself. I'll never get down that low, nor would I be able to maintain it. I know me. I like to eat. Hence, the weight listed above.
Ok, the tough part is done. I've shared the hard part. Now I move on to watching what I eat: eating more than just an apple a day. (Though it has helped keep me away from the doc the last few years except for things like asthma and a viral rash that I never want to repeat.)
I know Mike and I can do this. The teamwork we'll have will help us both reach our goals to be healthier and live longer together. To get out and enjoy things, like Midwest Horse Fair next year. Going out for bike rides on the CE trail - and going the whole way. Maybe lots more things that I can't even think of at the moment.
So there it is. Tomorrow: the little steps and the rewards.

Tomorrow
So tomorrow starts the big deal. Mike and I are hitting the diet. Not that we should really be calling it that, more a lifestyle improvement. While Mike will follow the older guidelines of Weight Watchers, I found that counting calories works for me. I've also decided that on the nights I don't go out to the barn to ride, I will start going for walks. I'll be freezing my butt off for some of these walks - who the heck irritated Mother Nature that she gave us a beautiful weekend (with tornados), then dropped the temps back into the low 40s for highs???
But I've got to start somewhere. I also want to bring in my exercise ball, get it pumped back up, and start doing exercises on there. I would really like to work on my core area, because I'll be honest, I want to trim the stomach and the butt/thighs down a bit. I know a few exercises on the ball and just using me that will start helping those areas. Plus, if I can start trimming my legs, it might make it easier to find riding boots that fit. 2.5 years of ballroom dancing, plus jogging, have rendered my old riding boots too small in the calves. Thankfully the rest of my riding gear fits. Just need boots.
Tomorrow morning, I weigh myself. I got an idea of what I weighed when I went to the doc on Wednesday to have something else looked at, and it's definitely time to get going.
And the brutally honest part? I'll post my weight on here too, and when I do, I will also include my goal weight.
Deep breath.......I can do this.

This is Me
This is me, part one. Mike and I have committed to 2011 being the year we reclaim our house (organizing the kitchen, the sunroom, etc) and becoming financially and physically fit. This is one step, for me, for being physically fit. Much as it will be hard to admit some things about myself, I will promise to be honest on here. What I eat, when and what I do for exercise, and also my weight loss triumphs. I hope I can count on you for support and encouragement, as well as giving me a virtual nudge when I feel like it just ain't going my way.
This is me. Honestly.
